Invest in property as a pension

Although there are some negative stories in the press about house prices, overall property is a very good investment. It’s a different asset class and so you can use it to diversify your investments for your pension pot. Property as a pension is top of my list when it comes to retirement planning.

House prices do drop and rise, and even though over the last few years they have dipped they have stabilised over the past 2 to 3 years.

Property gives you a great deal of control – you can choose when to invest, in which area you think will give a good return and also how much you want to spend. If you talk to an investment specialist they will help you to work out not only the cash flow for the short term but also how property as a pension will help you in the long term.

Unlike the shares that your pension fund invests in, property won’t ever drop to zero value. It may drop and rise over the years, but it will never be worthless and in twenty years it certainly won’t lose money. Property is a much more stable investment than any company, and as you have complete control you can keep on top of your investment much more easily.

The income that you gain in the short term can also be put towards your pension pot, something you can’t do with other investments. In addition, property allows you to update, renovate and extend for maximum profit in the long term.

It allows you to leverage a lender’s money, using the money you borrow to generate the cash flow that you might need now, or might want to put aside for the future. In addition, it gives you a great deal of stability, control and flexibility.
